What is social proof, and why does it work?

Social proof is evidence that other people trust you: reviews, testimonials, case studies, client logos, ratings, and user numbers. It works because people look to others' choices when deciding, especially under uncertainty. Seeing that others chose you lowers the perceived risk of choosing you too.

It's one of the most reliable levers on conversion. A strong testimonial or a visible star rating near a call to action can lift results more than clever copy, because it answers the quiet question every buyer has: can I trust this?

The essentials are that it's genuine and specific. Real names, real results, and concrete details persuade. Vague or fabricated praise does the opposite once people sense it. Collecting and displaying honest proof is among the highest-return, lowest-cost marketing you can do.
