What is technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the work that makes a site easy for search engines to crawl, render, and index. It covers site speed, mobile friendliness, a clean URL structure, an XML sitemap, correct use of canonical tags and redirects, and fixing broken links or crawl errors. It's the foundation the rest sits on.

The reason it comes first is simple: if Google can't access or understand a page, no amount of good content will rank it. A blocked robots file, a redirect loop, or a page that only renders after heavy JavaScript can quietly keep you out of the index.

Most technical SEO is invisible to visitors but visible to crawlers. Tools like Google Search Console and Lighthouse surface the problems, and many are one-time fixes that keep paying off long after you make them.
