What does a website cost to build?

It depends entirely on scope. A simple template site can cost a few hundred dollars, a professional custom business site typically runs a few thousand to low tens of thousands, and a large custom platform runs much higher. The price tracks how much design, custom development, and content the project needs.

The main cost drivers are custom design versus a template, the number of pages, custom features (booking, payments, member logins), content creation, and integrations with other systems. Each one moves the number, which is why two "website" quotes can differ tenfold.

There's also the ongoing side: hosting, a domain, maintenance, and updates. A one-time build price that ignores those isn't the full cost of owning a site. Ask what the first year actually totals, not just the launch fee.
