What does a web app cost to build?

A web app costs more than a website because it does more: user accounts, a database, business logic, and ongoing state. As of 2026, a simple MVP commonly runs in the low tens of thousands of dollars, while a full product with many features and integrations runs well into six figures.

The cost scales with features. Every screen a user can act on, every role and permission, every integration with payments or other systems, and every rule the app enforces adds design, build, and testing work. Apps are priced by complexity, not page count.

The smart move is to start with a minimum viable product: the smallest version that delivers real value, built to learn from actual users. That controls upfront cost and avoids building features nobody ends up wanting.
