What is GA4 (Google Analytics 4)?

GA4 is the current version of Google Analytics, the free tool for measuring website and app traffic. It replaced the older Universal Analytics in 2023, so it's what every site uses now. It's event-based, tracks users across web and app, and is built around privacy changes like cookie limits.

GA4 shows where visitors come from, what they do on your site, and which sources drive valuable actions like purchases or signups. Setting up those key actions as conversion events is what turns raw traffic numbers into insight you can act on.

It has a steeper learning curve than the old version, and its interface takes getting used to. But because it's free, standard, and integrates with Google's ad tools, it remains the default analytics choice for most businesses.
