Is a template cheaper than a custom website?

Yes, a template is cheaper upfront, often by a large margin, because the design already exists and you're customizing it rather than building from scratch. The trade-off is that you fit your business to the template's constraints, and you'll share the look with everyone else using it.

Templates make sense when speed and budget matter more than a distinct look, and your needs are standard. A well-chosen template can produce a clean, professional site quickly for a fraction of a custom build.

Custom design earns its cost when your brand, your specific features, or your differentiation matter, and when a template would force awkward compromises. Many projects land in between: a custom design on a solid framework, rather than either extreme.
