What are Google AI Overviews?

AI Overviews are the AI-generated summaries Google shows at the top of many search results, answering the query directly and citing a few sources. They sit above the traditional links, so they strongly shape what users see first and whether they click through at all.

Because they're built on Google's core ranking systems, the way to appear in them is the same as ranking well: helpful, crawlable, well-structured content that clearly answers the question. There's no separate secret, just strong SEO plus clear, quotable answers.

Their rise is a big driver of zero-click behavior. Being one of the cited sources in an AI Overview brings visibility and authority even when it costs you the click, which is why appearing in them has become a real goal for content teams.
