Should you hire an agency, a freelancer, or build in-house?

A freelancer fits small, focused projects on a tighter budget. An agency fits larger, cross-discipline projects that need a team, continuity, and reliability. An in-house hire fits ongoing, core product work where you need dedicated, long-term capacity. The right choice depends on the project's size, stakes, and how ongoing the need is.

Freelancers are cost-effective and flexible but are a single point of failure with limited bandwidth. Agencies cost more but bring a range of skills, capacity, and continuity if someone leaves. In-house teams give the most control and focus but are the biggest fixed commitment.

Many businesses mix these: an agency to build and launch, then a freelancer or in-house person to maintain and grow it. Match the model to the phase, since a one-off build and long-term product work have different needs.
