Can you export your data if you leave?

Test it before you need it. Most platforms have an export button, and the question is what comes out of it: a usable database, or a folder of HTML with the structure stripped away. Export your content today and open the file. That five-minute check is the entire answer.

The gap is rarely the text. It is everything around the text: image files, the relationships between records, redirects, user accounts, and the settings that made the site behave the way it does. Those are what make a move expensive rather than tedious.

This applies to analytics, email lists and payment records too, not only the website. The account you cannot get data out of is the one that quietly decides where you stay.
