Its practical strength is that it's everywhere: cheap hosting supports it by default, and the enormous WordPress ecosystem keeps demand steady. For content sites, blogs, and many business websites, PHP quietly does the job.
PHP earned a poor reputation from its early years, but modern PHP and frameworks like Laravel are clean and productive. It's rarely the choice for a brand-new ambitious product, yet it remains a sensible, well-supported option for a lot of standard web work.
